Gunman Caught On Camera Shooting Taxi Driver Five Times

A disturbing video of a hooded gunman shows him pointing his weapon at a taxi driver before shooting him.

Police say that an unidentified goateed man jumped into a cab during the early hours Sunday and threatened driver Raphael Martinez, 54, in his cab around 5:10am when the driver did not understand his demands. The attack was captured on security cameras inside the vehicle.

The gunman reportedly fired at the cab driver–a married father of three–five times. Police say the incident happened at White Plains Road and Lafayette Avenue.

“My brother was saying, ‘Wait! I don’t understand you!’ and [the perp] just started shooting,” the victim’s brother Julian Martinez said. “[The gunman] didn’t give him time. He just shot him. All he had was $8.’

Manny Lopez, a dispatcher at DAT, the livery service where the victim works, said the driver had called for help via his radio after the shooting.

Martinez is recovering at Jacobi Medical Center and is in stable condition.

He shot Martinez five times – including twice in face. Fortunately he is in stable condition at a local hospital

Police said the incident happened at White Plains Road and Lafayette Avenue in the Soundview section

Mary J. Blige will return soon as she hones her acting chops once again. You may recall the Queen hit the screen last year as she starred in Rock Of Ages, but this time she returns in a much more serious, focused role. She will be playing the role of Dr. Betty Shabazz, wife of civil rights leader Malcolm X and a civil right leader all in her own right.

The role is part of the upcoming film Betty & Coretta, which interestingly explores the relationship between Martin Luther King Jr.’s wife, Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz. When asked about the part Ms. Blige said ““I didn’t even realize that she and Coretta had been friends. Women never get a chance to have their stories told when there are important men involved. That’s what drew me to the part.”. The movie will air on Saturday, February 2, at 8 p.m. on Lifetime. Sounds like a great film.

Two previously unreleased songs by Grammy-nominated singer Miguel have reached the digital sphere today. Respectively titled “Bawdy” and “On These Wings,” both songs display the crooner’s diversity with the former being orientated to the dancefloors and the latter being a soulfully soothing jam. Mind you that these are not official releases but are likely to stem back from 2006/07. Nonetheless, listen to both tracks below.

During his recent appearance on Sway in the Morning, Ma$e discussed some memories of the late B.I.G., “I remember B.I.G. used to always tell me stuff. He used to give me jewels and one of the jewels I gave to 2 Chainz when we was talking that while you’re doing this you gotta do all you can and can everything you get because you not guaranteed to be loved next year. They lovin’ you now. I understood that. That’s what made me take advantage of doing something else.”

Ma$e also discussed the murder of Biggie in Los Angeles. “When Biggie passed, it changed my whole perspective for many reasons. It was the first time I saw – ah, man, I’m on a truth campaign. It was the first time I saw people that were supposed to be who they are not act like who they are. That’s the best way I could say that. Somebody that important, something happen to, and nobody respond? If you don’t rock for that, what you gon’ rock for? At that point, my focus became different. If ain’t nobody do nothing about this, I shouldn’t think something’s gon’ happen different for me. So, my decision became real easy.”
